Trial by Desire is Courtney Milan's second novel and it is the story of Ned who has overcome depression and fought his own demons before returning to the wife he deserted after a few short months of marriage. Her dreams of their happy marriage were shattered and the novel picks up with his return to England. His young wife does not trust him and is hiding a secret from him. However, they still desire each other but he will not give in to that until she learns to trust him first, but will he trust her with his fears as well.It is a well developed story and the characters are very interesting. The only complaint I had was that at times it seemed the story dragged and the characters over thought their actions too much, which added to the story's slower tempo. Even with though, the story was interesting and definitely worth checking out.

What a beautiful cover! It's so hard as a writer to find that balance between character motivation and having them overthink their actions. I haven't read either of her novels, tho...

ReplyDeleteI read 'Proof by Seduction' and loved it, but I haven't been able to get to this one yet. My graduation/Christmas money has been coming in, so I'll be able to get some of the books on my "must get next" list. :D
